Meet Bruce Ranga — Real Experience, Local Focus
Standing for Dunedin City Council 2025 | Future Dunedin
Bruce Ranga isn’t here for the politics. He’s here to serve Dunedin — with over 30 years of real-world leadership across government, business, and community sectors, both in Aotearoa and abroad. Grounded in values and driven by outcomes, Bruce is standing for Council to bring clarity, accountability, and common sense back to the table.
As a proud Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Toa, and Ngāti Maniapoto man, Bruce values dignity, accountability, and genuine partnership in everything he does.
What Bruce Stands For
Local priorities. Practical solutions. Real leadership.
Bruce’s approach is simple: do what matters, listen to the people, and make every dollar count. His vision for Dunedin is grounded in three key commitments:
1. Lower Rates Through Better Decisions
Council must do more with less. Bruce will prioritise essential services, reduce wasteful spending, and ensure smarter budgeting that eases pressure on households.
“We’ve got to focus on the essentials — water, roads, facilities — and get better value from every ratepayer dollar.”
2. Restoring Trust and Transparency
Leadership starts with clear communication. Bruce backs plain-language decision-making, open consultation, and updates the public can actually understand. No spin. No fluff. Just straight-up integrity.
3. Supporting Local Growth and Opportunity
With deep experience in regional development, Bruce supports initiatives that unlock local potential — from clean industry and infrastructure to opportunities in tech, tourism, education, and Māori economic development.
Why Bruce’s Experience Matters
A Record of Leadership, Not Politics
Bruce’s journey isn’t a political one — it’s based on decades of community-driven leadership. As former CEO of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council in Australia, he led services for 15 Indigenous communities, managing $1.8 billion in assets and navigating complex infrastructure and economic challenges.
Here in Aotearoa, Bruce continues to serve on iwi panels and supports restorative justice initiatives. His leadership is grounded in listening, learning, and delivering real outcomes — the kind Dunedin needs now more than ever.
Ready to Serve Dunedin
Bruce is part of the Future Dunedin team — a fresh movement committed to financial responsibility, better decisions, and restoring trust in local government, led by mayoral candidate Andrew Simms.
“This city shaped our whānau. Now it’s time for me to give back.”
