Imagine If We Could Double Dunedin

In 2025, Dunedin Needs New Direction and Strong Leadership

What if we stopped accepting slow decline — and instead, chose bold growth?

What if we doubled down on what makes Dunedin great, and delivered twice the opportunity, twice the momentum, and twice the future?

Imagine if we could Double Dunedin.

Double the Number of Tech Jobs by 2030

Dunedin has untapped potential in tech — let’s unleash it.

  • Promote our tech industry nationally and globally
  • Repurpose underused council property (e.g. Fortune Theatre) into startup spaces
  • Turn talk into action with tangible incentives
  • Let Business South lead — and council get out of the way

Double High-Value Tourism from Queenstown

Targeted, sustainable tourism that grows Dunedin’s economy without crowding it.

  • Create focused Queenstown-to-Dunedin visitor campaigns
  • Complete the shared path to Dunedin to bring 80+ high-value, low-carbon visitors a day
  • Use Dunedin Railways and shuttles to bring Middlemarch visitors to the city
  • Double the number of major events at Forsyth Barr Stadium

Double the Value of Aurora Energy by 2035

Aurora can be a powerhouse — literally and financially.

  • By 2035, Aurora should deliver $100 million annually to Dunedin ratepayers
  • Council must set a clear direction and demand first-class management
  • This is about long-term wealth for the city

Double the Number of New Families

A fresh start for families can be found right here.

  • Target families leaving Auckland with affordable land+house packages
  • Promote Dunedin as the affordable, lifestyle-rich gateway to Central Otago
  • Highlight our new hospital, strong schools, wildlife, and safe community
  • Sell Dunedin’s way of life — because it sells itself
