Future Dunedin Launches with a Full House and a Clear Vision

August 3, 2025

A lively crowd of around 100 people gather inside Déjà Vu in Dunedin for the Future Dunedin campaign launch. The venue is filled with pink and purple neon lights, lush hanging greenery, and engaged attendees chatting and enjoying the atmosphere. Dunedin Mayoral Candidate Andrew Simms is visible in the foreground, speaking with supporters.

On July 30th, the team behind Future Dunedin officially launched their campaign at Déjà Vu in central Dunedin — and what a night it was.

With a room full of around 100 people, including whānau, friends, supporters and members of the public, the energy was undeniable. The venue buzzed with real momentum as the Future Dunedin Mayoral candidate Andrew Simms and the Future Dunedin team of Councillor Candidates spoke openly, passionately, and honestly about why they’re standing and what they stand for.

Each candidate took a moment to introduce themselves — not just by name and background, but by the values that drive them, the issues they care about, and the Future Dunedin policies they’re proud to champion. From housing to infrastructure, better financial oversight to restoring trust in Council, the message was clear: Dunedin deserves leadership that listens, acts, and puts people first.

The feedback on the night was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees described the event as inspiring, refreshing, and grounded — a welcome shift from the usual “business-as-usual” politics. People stayed well after the final speeches, chatting with candidates, asking questions, and offering support.

A Team That Reflects Dunedin

One of the things people consistently said they appreciated was the diversity of experience on the ticket. Future Dunedin’s team includes:

  • Community leaders
  • Small business owners
  • Public servants
  • Advocates
  • Young parents
  • And longtime locals who’ve seen both the challenges and the potential of our city

Each candidate brings a different lens, but they’re united by one purpose: to serve the people of Dunedin with integrity, transparency, and action.

Looking Ahead to the 2025 Dunedin Local Elections

With the 2025 Dunedin local body elections just around the corner, Future Dunedin is fired up and focused. The team will be out across the city in the coming weeks, talking to voters, listening to concerns, and sharing the practical, people-first policies they’ve built together.
